I have had A Week, guys. I'ts been tiring as all get out but I am still here, which is good. I hope you all are still here too. Sometiems taht's all we can do, be here and try for more next time.

things overall haven't been miserable for me personally, though I'm happy it's the weekend - I plan to hermit as much as possible.

I'm a political junky, but the onslaught of stupid & negative behavior is overwhelming. like an idiot, I opted for political crap on YouTube instead of music this morning, and it finally got to me. I eventually got smart(er) and switched to watching bessyboo's vid they're good dogs Brent repeatedly - it's become my happy place lately, because real life/politics is so grim. and who can argue with the theme? they're h*cking good dogs

Random things of the week:

I got angry about some things about my mom yesterday. I guess that's part of grieving, but I don't know what to do about it since she's not here to yell at.

I was just thinking today how much I love my job.

I've been loving Pose so much. It's an amazing show and more people should watch it.

I've found a place in town that does free daily yoga. My back and shoulders ache, but I finally realize how much tension I've been carrying. I also had 1 interview in Thursday and another coming up on Monday, so we'll see if those pan out.

Right now, I'm in Minnesota visiting my "sister," a fandom friend who I love and adore beyond measure. She has a yarn show tomorrow and I'm helping as her assistant. It's so nice to be with people who truly care. ♥

1. The programming project I've been working on this week is at the point where it's displaying everything it's supposed to. The next step, of course, will be allowing the user to input data. (It implements the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 depression and anxiety questionaires. No idea why I would have picked that...) (This project has involved learning both Javascript and React, FWIW.)

2. My wife, Colleen, is finished with her two weeks of IV antibiotics. Three if you count the time she spent in the hospital. It's been arduous. There will be follow-up appointments next week.

Emotional support

Attended a memorial gathering last weekend for a friend who, along with the rest of his family, had helped spouse through a difficult time some years ago. Shared a good, long hug, and my appreciation of what they had done for spouse, with the widow while we both cried on each other.

And, later in the weekend, at a time set aside to sing in memory of those who were no longer with us, I led a song (""Gentle Arms of Eden") that had helped me when my own dad had run out of life, with the intent of comforting those of us who remain as well -- and was heartened by those gathered, who decided it was a fitting and proper final song.

That's all I really need right now. Knowing my efforts were appreciated took care of the bulk of the pain I'd shared. And feeling like I did what friends, and members of the community the family and I share, do, left me feeling even better.

Pose is this amazing new show from FX. (FX site page where you can access episodes)

It's set in New York in 1987 in the gay ball culture of the day. People would join "houses" (families) to support each other and compete in dance-offs and costume contests (the "balls"). The main character is Blanca, a transwoman who breaks from the House of Abundance to start her own house -- the House of Evangelista. She's joined by her friend Angel, who's a sex worker, a teen kid named Damon who wants to be a dancer, and others as time goes on. There's also Pray Tell, an older gay man who emcees the balls, and who's a good friend to Blanca and the rest.

And of course, they have a rivalry with The House of Abundance, but there's also a lot of friendship and support.

The thing that made me start watching the show was that the showrunner committed to actually casting trans actors for those roles, and hiring a lot of LGBTQ castmembers as well. Most of the cast is non-white, since the balls were mostly for queer people of color.

And oh! I was too young at the time, and things were different by the time I was old enough to leave home. But this is the queer culture of the older generation before me, filled with chosen family and fabulousness and the shadow of never quite being acceptable anywhere else. So I'm watching this and crying and feeling so much for this history and these characters and I just want all the good things for them always.

No one's writing fic for it yet, that I can find, but I'm making art and hoping for the best. The costumes are AMAZING!
